Star Trek Online Remembers René Auberjonois
The game's players honored the late actor last night.
To fans all around the world, the actors on Star Trek aren’t just celebrities. They’re a part of our family. We feel their losses keenly, and each time another light goes out, we gather among our family in the stars to mourn and to celebrate their life. When the players of Star Trek Online heard about the passing of René Auberjonois —who brought Odo to life not just on screen in Star Trek: Deep Space 9 but also in a memorable turn in the game— they gathered on the titular space station to pay tribute.
Hundreds of fans stood and held vigil in Odo’s office, where René’s most famous character still stands, posting an honor guard on either side of the door. Those guards stood sentinel all night, rotating out as players would need to go to work or tend to their families, to make sure the light that burned to honor René never went out.
Thank you, René, for everything you did for us. We’ll never forget you.
